Zion National Park Fall Photography Workshop
About the tour
The jagged mountains of Utah, plus fall colors and flowing water add up to make this workshop a scenic photographers delight.
I am co-leading this trip with Rod Barbee.
Zion National Park is one of the most famous jewels of the National Park system. There is no better time to visit than during the fall color season, after the summer crowds have departed and the cottonwood trees change to gold. The impressive peaks of southwestern Utah should be on every photographer's bucket list. We’ll photograph all the highlights of this famous national park as well as some hidden, more remote places. If our group feels energetic enough, we may even get up really early one morning for a sunrise in Bryce National Park.
Here's a chance to fill your portfolio with the classic national park scenes that you’ve seen published in calendars, in magazines, and on countless posters. Mountain and fall color scenes will delight you at every turn, and with our help and advice, you’ll get shots that you’ll be proud to display and show off to friends.
As light is often the key to great landscape photos, we'll be spending much of our time at the edge of light during the minutes surrounding sunrise and sunset. And, during the time before the light starts getting really good, we'll help you fine tune your compositions, we'll demonstrate landscape techniques such as hyperfocal focusing, and we'll show you how to use graduated neutral density filters or to expose your images for later blending in the computer. We’ll also show you how to set up for stitched panorama photos, and much, much more.
Late October is the best time to be at this famous national park. Fewer people mean more pleasant photography and of course wildlife can appear at any time.
This is a field workshop. Most of our time will be spent in the field. Classroom and critique sessions are optional as space and time allow. Rod and I may be photographing alongside participants on this trip but we are always available to help you if you need.
All levels of photographers are welcome, from the beginner to the seasoned pro. Here's a chance to fill your portfolio with the amazing and totally awesome scenes that Zion offers. Come get tons of photos that you’ll be proud to show off, while enjoying the endless beauty of one of America’s premier national parks.
I hope you’ll join us on this amazing tour!
