About the tourWedged between the Piedmont and the Mediterranean Sea, this region in Italy offers stunning vistas at every turn.
The famous Cinque Terre (five lands) are a group of impossibly located fishing villages which still retain their ancient way of life, and their small-town feel as they cling to the coast. The entire Cinque Terre region is a UNESCO World Heritage site and encompasses some of the most dramatic coastline in all the world. We’ll spend time on this coast as well as in other areas where verdant mountains and blue seas collide. Boats, beaches, colorful villas and azure water will greet us every day and the fire-red sunset light will kiss us good night each evening. Each place we visit is full of friendly, welcoming locals and endless photography potential. Best of all we go as a small group of only 6 participants and me as leader. You won’t find a better instructor to participant ratio on any coastal Italy tour anywhere! This is a cultural photo tour, which means we’ll be traveling together and I will be photographing alongside you. Most of our time will be spent in the field in both town and seaside areas. One-on-one image review, and group critique sessions are optional as space and time allow. ItineraryMay 16
Fly into Peretola International Airport in Florence arriving sometime during late afternoon or early evening. We meet in the evening in Florence. We will spend this one night here, to get settled. We will have some time in Florence to photograph a couple of sites during the first evening and the first morning. May 17 - 23 On May 17th, we’ll move on by mini-bus to the Italian Riviera, where we’ll be based in Lerici for 3 nights and then in Manarola (part of the Cinque Terre) for 4 nights. Both of these towns are charming Italian places which retain the true feel of coastal Italy. Each day from the 17th till the 23rd we’ll get out early into the surrounding area for magic light photography. During mid-day, there will be time to explore on your own, dine, taste wine, do more photography or simply relax as you wish. We’ll then go as a group to another of my favorite places somewhere in a nearby village or seaside area each evening in order to capture the magic light which occurs around sunset. May 24 On May 24th the tour ends back in Florence at the Peretola airport at about noon. Fly home this day after 4pm. |
About youAll levels of photographers are welcome on my tours, from the beginner to the seasoned pro.
You should be reasonably fit and able to walk short distances over sometimes rough terrain for this trip. There aren’t any mandatory long hikes on this tour, but we will be walking up lots of steep, uneven steps and up plenty of cliffside hills in order to capture our magic light photos. For the energetic, there are endless hiking opportunities on this tour- from easy strolls to very difficult hikes. The type of camera you use doesn't matter, and non-photographer friends and spouses will enjoy this trip and the beautiful coast and beaches as well. Cost & Essentials
