Colorado Fall Color Photo Tour
About the tour
The fall color in Colorado has to be experienced to be believed. Yellow aspen trees turn entire hillsides to gold. The deepest blue skies you can imagine compete for attention with jagged, snowcapped peaks. The colors, shapes and patterns are as awesome and beautiful as nature gets. The mountains and natural areas we'll visit are some of the most spectacular locations on Earth, and when you add in the amazing colors of autumn you won't find a better place to be with a camera this fall.
Famous throughout the World for amazing mountain scenery, the Colorado Rockies are most spectacular in the San Juan Range. This tour is based in Ouray, Colorado, in the heart of the San Juan Mountains and often called “the Switzerland of America.” I’ve made all the necessary reservations for our group and your lodging at the hotel is covered in your tour tuition fee. All you need to do is get yourself to Ouray, Colorado on September 27th.
Snowcapped peaks and endless forests of yellow aspen trees, high mountain lakes, and views that go on forever will all be subjects for our cameras. We'll get low in aspen groves with wide-angle lenses and we'll zoom in on mountaintops with telephoto lenses and we'll gasp in wonder that such scenery even exists!
Here's a chance to fill your portfolio with classic mountain and fall color scenes that you’ll be proud to show off.
As light is often the key to great landscape photos, we'll be spending much of our time at the edge of light during the minutes surrounding sunrise and sunset. And during the time before the light starts getting really good, I can help you fine tune your compositions, I can demonstrate landscape photography techniques such as hyperfocal focusing, and I can show you how to use graduated neutral density filters or to expose your images for later blending in the computer. I can also show you how to set up for a stitched panoramas and much more.
This is a photography tour. Most of our time will be spent in the field. Classroom and critique sessions are optional as space and time allow. I will be photographing alongside participants on this trip but I am always available to help you if you need.
A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is a BIG help on this trip, but not everyone needs such a vehicle. I’ll work out the details of this with each participant.
All levels of photographers are welcome on my tours, from the beginner to the seasoned pro.
I hope you’ll join me on this amazing tour in my home state!
