The wildlife diversity of Costa Rica is well-known and stunning to behold. In a very small country (about the size of West Virginia) Costa Rica contains over 500,000 species of plant and animal. This small Central American country is considered to possess the highest density of biodiversity anywhere on Earth. There are over 400 reptile and amphibian species, 250 mammal species, thousands of butterfly and moth species and almost 900 recorded bird species. And the opportunities we'll have there as nature photographers will be unparalleled! 10 days/10 nights included.

Includes

  • 10 nights accommodations.* 
  • Airport pick-up and drop off.

  • All meals (breakfast.lunch and dinner) from breakfast on March 20 to breakfast on March 29th.

​*Accommodations are based on double occupancy. For those not traveling as a couple I will accommodate you with a participant of the same sex. Rooms have 2 single beds. If you are a single traveler and prefer a private room the single supplement will apply.
Single Supplement: If you prefer a single room the single supplement charge of $795 will apply. 
Fitness Level: Medium. Must be able to walk up steep steps, carry your own equipment and negotiate uneven terrain and cobblestone pathways. Our longest walk is 1/2 mile 1 way. 
Not Included: 
  • Air fare from your hometown to San Jose, Costa Rica and return (airport code SJO).
  • Meals on March 19th (arrival day into San Jose).
  • Alcoholic drinks. 
  • Tips to local guides and drivers. 
  • Passport or visa fees (visas are not required for citizens of USA or Canada).

Itinerary

February 26
​Fly into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica arriving sometime during late afternoon or early evening. Our driver will be waiting for you with a sign so you know who to go with for your transfer to the hotel. We meet at 6pm in the evening at the designated hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica.

February 27-28
Drive to our first lodge called Laguna de Lagarto. Access to amazing feeding platforms, jungle canoes, and a special ground-level blind for photographing the gorgeous King Vulture. Also a special offering of a night photography session with nectar bats in flight.
 
March 1-3
Drive to our second lodge called La Quinta de Sarapiqui. Overnight at Sarapiqui each night. At least 2 wildlife photo sessions scheduled each day. Highlights include a special tropical frog photo session of treefrogs and poison dart frogs, handled by professional wildlife guides. We'll also have access to special bird feeding platforms where the action of dozens of species is non-stop. Also included is a special photo day with a true jungle guide who will lead us to impossible -to-find species.

March 4-6
Transfer to a highlands area where we'll try to find the amazing Resplendent Quetzal - one of the most sought-after birds in the world. In this area we stay right in an amazing jungle lodge in order to maximize our chances to see and photograph Quetzals. We'll also have access to special feeders, an awesome jungle waterfall and more.   

March 7
After 1 last photo shoot and then a final breakfast, we transfer to the San Jose airport for our flights home.
