Ecuador Birds Photo Tour

Ecuador Birdlife (Galapagos Add-on Tour) 2018 -
Tour did SELL OUT-

About the 2018 tour (dates were April 23-30, 2018)
After the week in the Galapagos a smaller group of photographers and I headed into the cloud forests of Ecuador for new adventures. We were after hummingbirds, rain forest birdlife and whatever else came our way. And the action was non-stop. At our first lodge we enjoyed the lush accommodations, the excellent food, friendly staff, and of course plenty of birdlife to photograph. The small group of 7 of us had our own little (mostly) covered area for hummingbird set-ups and though it rained quite a lot, we made do and photographed every day, all day. Though I rarely find the subject of food memorable enough to discuss, I do wish to mention the delicious deserts we enjoyed here, which were as much works of art as they were great to eat.

We then moved on to another lodge at a lower elevation and here the hummingbird life was a constant buzz of unparalleled action. Hundreds of tiny birds zipped around the open deck of the lodge and before you could even set a flower or bird feeder down, the feathered bundles of energy were all over it. It was an inspiring spectacle of the wonder of nature and watching it was almost as much fun as photographing it all. The action and photography at this, our second lodge which we all experienced and photographed was intense and wonderful in that sort of way that you had to witness to believe.

A day trip to yet another refuge brought us close to many, many different and rare Ecuadorian birds, which might be impossible to find without guides and inside information. Perhaps more photos were taken during these 7 days than even during the Galapagos portion of the tour. I offer here, a small sample of the shots I managed to get while traveling with this smaller group of true adventurers into the Ecuadorian cloud forest. Thank you to those who decided to extend their stay in Ecuador with me.

I will offer this add-on tour as part of the Galapagos 2020 trip. It’s not too early to reserve a space. 7 spaces still open.
