Isle Des Pins, New Caledonia We consider ourselves lucky that we recently got to spend 15 days in New Caledonia. This South Pacific island group, east of northeastern Australia is sort of an unknown paradise vacation spot. Made up of 1 main island and lots of smaller islands, New Caledonia is a French colony with pristine coral reefs, good infrastructure, and plenty to keep intrepid travelers busy. Shown here is a small piece of a small island called Isle Des Pins (Island of Pines). I had my camera at the ready when we took off in a small island prop plane one gorgeous morning, heading for the mainland. I was seated on the left side as the plane banked and I managed to get a clear shot of the scene below. We had just stayed 4 nights on the tiny beach at the far left center of the image. The snorkeling was amazing, there were plenty of interesting birds to photograph and the sunsets were incredible. I'd highly recommend a vacation to New Caledonia if you wish to visit the South Pacific someday.
