Don's Destination: Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
If you'd like a nice springtime photography destination, I would highly recommend the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson. This place holds endless potential for nature photographers. First, it is set in the totally unique Sonora Desert, famous for huge Saguaro Cacti. Second, it is one of the most diverse and well-kept outdoor showcases of desert life anywhere. Third, there are tons of desert animals (both wild and captive) that can be seen and easily photographed here. For bird photographers, during winter and spring months the museum has a free-flight raptor program twice a day. There is also a great hummingbird aviary which is where I captured the image above. If you are interested in flying hummingbird photos, those might be better captured somewhere else, but the museum's aviary is great for perched birds and females on nests with either eggs or babies. Great opportunities! The museum is open every day from 8:30am to 5pm.
