The summit of 14,150 foot Mount SneffelsLocated in the San Juan range of Colorado, Mount Sneffels is often called the most beautiful of all Colorado mountains. I have viewed and photographed this mountain over the years countless times and finally just last month I stood on its lofty summit. Anya and I started our climb at 4:30am dressed for the high altitude chill and carrying simple lightweight packs. The starlit tundra gave way to a gorgeous sunrise and endless wildflower views. We hiked in glorious solitude for 3 miles, then up a very steep gully before climbing a long and slippery snowfield. A tiny bit of rock climbing through 'the notch' and then we did a bunch of rock scrambling before we received our reward - the incredible views from the summit.
